BWW Reviews: Keeping With Tradition at Raleigh Little Theatre's CINDERELLA

BWW-Reviews-Keeping-With-Tradition-at-Raleigh-Little-Theatres-CINDERELLA-20010101

2012 marks Raleigh Little Theatre's 29th year of producing Cinderella.  It is a tradition that many people see year after year, and some of the performers have been playing the same role for quite some time as well.

The theater community is one rooted in traditions, and we like it that way.  It's part of what gets us hooked on live entertainment and what keeps us coming back for more.  It's pretty cool that there's a tradition in Raleigh theater that has lasted almost thirty years.  Some folks who have been in Raleigh Little Theatre's Cinderella show have even gone on to be famous.  The two gentlemen playing the ugly stepsisters have been doing so for over a decade.  It's exciting just being in the presence of such a fun tradition in our very own theater community.  It's also neat that this Cinderella takes place at Christmas time.  Especially for those folks looking for an alternative to a yearly production of A Christmas Carol, Cinderella is a refreshing option.

Not the Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella you may know, Raleigh Little Theatre's version is adapted by Jim Eiler, with lyrics and music also by Jim Eiler, and music by Jeanne Bargy.  The show features some unexpected comic moments, particularly from two fairy helpers in the employ of the Fairy Godmother, and a hum-along worthy song by the magical trio called "Hi Diddle Dee."

Raleigh Little Theatre's production of Cinderella is absolutely kid-friendly.  It's my opinion that kids need theater early and often.  So, why not let your kids dress up as Cinderella or Prince Charming and experience theater that is accessible for them?  Your kid may even get to try on a glass slipper.

Cinderella is an almost universal tale, with versions occurring in many varying countries and cultures around the world.  It's also engrained in the theater community of Raleigh, having made its mark for the last 29 years.  Cinderella runs through December 16.  For tickets and more information, visit www.raleighlittletheatre.org.
