Internationally renowned playwright and director Barbara Lebow is in residence at Peace College now through November 16, 2010 to direct her award winning play "A Shayna Maidel."

"A Shayna Maidel" is a powerful, haunting and deeply affecting portrait of a family, which conveys the aftermath of the Holocaust through a poignant, imaginatively conceived examination of one divided family's experience. Widely produced by America's leading regional theatres, the play went on to become a long-run Off-Broadway success. "...a tribute to the sustaining power of family and to man's indomitability." --NY Times. "It's an emotional powerhouse of almost overwhelming proportions." --Hartford Journal Inquirer.

Lebow's residency at Peace is the fifth collaboration with Peace Theatre director Kenny Gannon over the last twenty years.

Whether the topic is the Holocaust, the Cuban revolution, the violence in America's Civil Rights movement, the war in Iraq, or homelessness, Lebow brings audiences around the world face to face with history's blind spots and does so in powerful, innovative and deeply moving ways. In addition to "A Shayna Maidel," her published plays include "Little Joe Monaghan," "The Keepers," "The Left Hand Singing," and "Tiny Tim is Dead." She has taught writing to developmentally disabled adults, the homeless, women in prison, drug addicts, first offenders, and students at risk. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Michael Douglas Distinguished Visiting Artist Residency at the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Guggenheim Fellowship in playwriting.

Performances of "A Shayna Maidel" are November 9-16 (except Sunday) at 7:30pm in Leggett Theater.
