Bare Theatre Announces 2013 WINTER ACTS Line-Up

Bare Theatre presents its fourth annual collection of short plays previously unseen in the Triangle. Continuing the tradition of bringing original works to audiences, Bare Theatre's 2013 Winter Acts offers thrills and uncertain endings with stories that question reality and distort the everyday norms.

Managing Director G. Todd Buker directs "The Hitler Youth Knife," by R. Alex Davis, a former Bare Theatre Rogue Company actor from Raleigh. In it, Norman confronts his college friend Mike with questions about religion, racism, and retribution over a dangerous artifact from history, one which will open up a dark secret between them. Justin Smith and Matt Fields perform.

Artistic Director Heather J. Strickland directs "Fun House," by Tarboro native Jordan Carlson. Atlas and Larue find themselves in a dimly lit theatre which seems to have no way out, yet they can hear a train approaching. Are they in an experiment or is there something supernatural occurring? The play features Mary Forester, Jeff Buckner, and Loren Armitage.

Managing Director G. Todd Buker directs "The Tape Recorder," a period thriller from English playwright Pat Flower. Originally created as a teleplay, "The Tape Recorder" was the BBC's first color transmission. In it Miss Collins, a pretty young secretary, listens to recorded tape of her employer, a writer, as he dictates notes on his newest work one that she may be unwittingly part of.

Maegan MercerBourne gives a wordless performance, Loren Armitage provides the voice of the writer. The evening also includes performances by Cirque De Vol Studios, a group of performers and teachers that specialize in aerial silks, trapeze, acrobatics, yoga, pilates, zumba, stiltwalking, juggling, fire dance and certification, hoop dance, latin dance and belly dance. Cirque De Vol will collaborate with Bare Theatre to create a vintage circusthemed city of Ephesus in The Comedy of Errors. Errors runs May24 -June1 at Raleigh Little Theatre's amphitheater.

This production kicks off a Kickstarter for The Comedy of Errors and will offer audiences postshow talkbacks with directors, cast members, and playwrights. For more information and schedules for postshow events, please visit Bare Theatre's website at www.baretheatre.org.

The show contains adult language and themes. Parents may find the content okay for mature students, but are encouraged to use their own discretion. Bare Theatre has continued to receive critical acclaim, most recently with the company's original production, Let Them Be Heard, being named among The Independent Weekly's Best of 2012 for Best Ensemble, Best Director, Best Production, and Special Achievement in the Humanities. Bare Theatre is known for its minimalist, highenergy, physical approach to the works of William Shakespeare.
