Burning Coal Theatre Presents JAILBAIT, Now thru 10/7

As part of the Wait 'Til You See This Series, Burning Coal Theatre Company presents Deirdre O'Connor's JAILBAIT, directed by Christine Zagrobelny. JAILBAIT will run tonight, Sept. 27-Oct. 7, 2012.

In JAILBAIT, high school sophomores Claire and Emmy, posing as college students, sneak into a Boston nightclub to meet boys. Mark thinks a night out with attractive college girls is exactly what his friend, Robert, needs to recover from his recent breakup. Thrown together for a night, these adolescents on the cusp of maturity and thirty-somethings still trying to figure it all out, discover unexpected and dangerous compatibilities. But when Emmy encounters the sexual expectations of the slick Mark and Claire finds herself surprisingly drawn to the heartbroken Robert, both girls must decide how far they are willing to go while playing at adulthood. Smart, funny, and disturbing, JAILBAIT asks the question: When do you really become an adult?

JAILBAIT will feature Sean Brosnahan, Tara Polhemus, Anna Maria Vargas and Brian Yandle.

Deirdre is a graduate of Hampshire College and Columbia University's MFA Playwriting program where she received the John Golden Playwriting Award. She wrote JAILBAIT as a 2008 Cherry Lane Mentor Project Fellow, mentored by Michael Weller. Other plays include: Assisted Living, Hero and Penicillin.

Christine holds a BA in Dramatic Art from UNC-CH. Her previous directing experience includes: The Shape of Things (an independent production sponsored by the Town of Chapel Hill), Cinders for LAB! Theatre and Julius Caesar for the Ensemble Acting Conservatory at Cardinal Gibbons High School.

Performances run at 7:30pm tonight, Sept. 27 and Sept. 29, 30, Oct. 4, 5, 6 and at 2:00pm on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7. All performances will take place at the Murphey School Auditorium, 224 Polk Street in Raleigh, NC. Tickets are $10 and are available at 919-834-4001 or at www.burningcoal.org.
